Explore your imagination! Express yourself through animation by telling a story. Students will explore numerous animation techniques, including drawn animation, flip books, paper cutout, stop-motion, and more. All online with screen sharing, online group talks, and Q&A.
This class is for Middle and High School students.
Syllabus:
Day 1 - FLIP BOOKS: Frame per frame drawn on index card
Intro to Stop motion studio phone App.
Animation: Sequence of images, with small changes to each individual frame/ image/ drawings/ positions, to create the illusion of movement and to give life or act. Shot by shot, frame by frame.
Day 2 - CHARCOAL ANIMATION
Transformation - Change or cause to change smoothly from one image to another by small gradual steps.
Day 3 - CUTOUT ANIMATION
Moving cutout puppets or shapes in small movements steps and taking pictures of each movement.
Photo Collage & Layering of color paper or magazine and assembling in a different form and creating a whole new form or character and environment.
Day 4 - PIXILATION
Frame-by-frame animation using your own body and other objects, moving in small increments to make the illusion of movement.
Day 5 - OBJECTS or Clay ANIMATION
Stop Motion-small changes to each individual frame position, to create the illusion of movement and to give life or act. Shot by shot, frame by frame. The manipulating of real-word objects with the use of photography. Re-imagine the every day and transformation and metamorphoses and distortion.

Day 1 - FLIP BOOKS
Materials Options: Index cards or 8x11 paper, markers, pencils, colored pencils, large binder clips
Day 2 - CHARCOAL ANIMATION
Materials Options: charcoal paper, soft pastels, chamois, vine charcoal, charcoal pencils, charols sticks (not compress charcoal)
Day 3 - CUTOUT ANIMATION
Materials Options: Paper 8x11, colored paper, magazines, scissors or XActo knife, Glue sticks, Blue or scotch tape (must have), thread (must have)
Day 4 - PIXILATION
Materials: Costume and Props
Day 5 - OBJECTS or Clay ANIMATION
Materials : Home objects (lamps, spoons, clothing), toys or clay with fishing line. ClayToon OR Oil Clay Plastalina OR Play Doh OR Clay.
