The afternoon Focus Workshops are a great ad-on to the morning Discovery session and offer young artists an opportunity for a deeper dive into an artistic area. Performing arts workshops including music, theater, circus, and dance workshops include a performance on Friday afternoon at 3pm at the Hames Center. All families and students are welcome.

Puppet Workshop - Students entering grades 1-2
An introduction to theater through storytelling. Come join in the fun as students create stories and expand their imagination with puppets!
Visual Arts I Workshop - Students entering grades 1-2
This workshop will emphasize art as an experience. The focus will be on the expressive joy of the process rather than a finished product. This will be a “hands-on” adventure. Play clothes are strongly recommended.
Music I Workshop - Students entering grades 1-3
It doesn’t matter whether you know a lot about music or feel like you know very little… this class will be full of glorious sounds, fun activities, and playful exploration to enhance your music appreciation and skills!
Dance I Workshop - Students entering grades 3-4
Come get moving with the exciting art-form of dance! This workshop will introduce students to a range of styles of dance. Bring your energy, love of performance, and sense of fun! Come dressed to move.
Visual Arts II Workshop - Students entering grades 3-4
Strengthen your technical skills and hone your powers of observation! This workshop will explore the world of visual arts through different projects and activities.
Dance II Workshop - Students entering grades 4-6
The focus of this class will be about the raw physicality of dance. Students of any dance background can take this class and gain strength, speed, balance, and overall virtuosity of movement. Come dressed to move.
Music II Workshop - Students entering grades 4-6
It doesn’t matter whether you know a lot about music or feel like you know very little… this class will be full of glorious sounds, fun activities, and playful exploration to enhance your music appreciation and skills!
Circus Workshop - Students entering grades 4-6
Fly away with your imagination! Turn the world upside-down or turn yourself downside-up. Learn how to juggle, become an acrobat and create your own clown character in this whirlwind week of fun and laughter. Become your own ringmaster in physical comedy, imaginative storytelling, and improvisation. Only serious students of silliness allowed. The workshop culminates in a wacky, fun-filled circus performance for the public.
Filmmaking Workshop - Students entering grades 5-6
From idea to finished short film, we will explore the different techniques of filmmaking. Students will learn about shot sizes and angles, cameras, lens choice, lighting, sound practices, writing a story, breaking down a story to film, and editing.
Piano Workshop - Students entering grades 3-7
The Piano Workshop is a group music class that explores piano technique and introduces students to the body of piano repertoire. Bring something to play the first day representative of your ability. You are welcome to bring any music you may have at home that you would like to learn to play, or would like some coaching on. You will also be assigned new music. Students should bring their own headphones to this class. Students must have at least 2 years of piano lessons to participate.
String Workshop - Students entering grades 1-5
The Elementary Strings Workshops is a great opportunity for Elementary string players who are looking to improve their technique through the guidance of world-class strings players. The week-long workshop includes masterclasses, eurythmics, playing in a group, and much more. Open to students who play violin, viola, cello, or bass. Students must have at least 1 year of string lessons to participate.
Woodwind Workshop - Students entering grades 6-9
Perfect for students looking to improve their musical technique. Through the guidance of our experienced faculty, students will work on their musicality, music and rhythm reading skills, and playing in a larger group. Students must have at least one year of woodwind lessons to participate.

The elementary focus workshops run 1:00PM - 2:30PM. Drop off and pick up on the first day is at the front lawn on the Sitka Fine Arts Campus. After the first day, drop off and pick up is at the student's classroom. Families are invited to a combined performance for all performing workshops on Friday afternoon from 3-4pm at the Hames Center. Pick up Friday for performing workshops is at 4pm at the Hames Center. Pick up for non-performing workshops on Friday is at 2:30pm at your student's classroom.
